Wes Brown: Man Utd and Arsenal will try to steal Isak

Alexander Isak away from Newcastle

Former Premier League defender Wes Brown has told NewBettingSites.uk that he believes Manchester United and Arsenal will be two of the clubs looking to coax Alexander Isak away from Newcastle in the near future

Brown described Isak as one of the best strikers in the Premier League this season, alongside Chris Wood, but warned Newcastle that a host of top clubs will be trying to convince the Swedish forward to leave St James’ Park.

Speaking to NewBettingSites.uk, Brown said: “For all we know, Newcastle might not actually need to sell anyone. They’ll try their hardest to keep hold of him. That said, there will be many clubs wanting to sign him, both abroad and in the Premier League. The likes of Manchester United and Arsenal will be looking to try and nick the best players in the league, and he’s certainly one of those.

“When you look at the strikers in the league this season, he and Chris Wood have been absolutely brilliant. Isak is operating at a really high level this season and I think Newcastle can do enough to keep him, but there will be many clubs trying to persuade him to leave St. James’ Park.”

Isak is everything you want in a Premier League striker

Brown highlighted Isak’s speed, willingness to run in behind, and quality on the ball as key attributes which make him perfectly suited to Premier League football.

“The Alexander Isak situation is a tough one. I love him as a player and he’s been brilliant this season - he’s got me a lot of Fantasy Premier League points as well!” said Brown.

“He’s still a young talent, he’s quick, physical, and he gets around the pitch. He’s really come into his own this season. I think everyone liked him last season, but now he’s really come into his own. He is everything you want in a Premier League striker because he’s so quick, he looks to run in behind, but he’s good on the ball as well and can create chances.”

Isak will be key to Newcastle’s Champions League hopes

Asked whether keeping hold of Isak is crucial to Newcastle’s aims of returning to the Champions League, Brown was certain that the Swedish striker will be key to getting the club back in Europe.

“Keeping Isak at the club will be key to Newcastle’s Champions League ambitions,” he said. “They’ve now got the financial backing to be able to keep players like him, rather than having to sell them to bigger clubs.
“The key thing for Newcastle at the moment is getting back into the Champions League and doing well in Europe. We all remember Manchester City doing a similar thing when they first got taken over and look where they are now, because they kept their best players and then brought in players of a similar level around them.
“You can see he looks relaxed and confident at Newcastle for now and I can see him continuing to perform as he has this season. Then it will be up to Newcastle to hold onto him.”
