TV Racing Tips: Lucky 15 Bets from Kelso and Newbury

Following a week crammed with action from the Cheltenham Festival and ending with a Wembley Cup Final is a tall order. Inevitably, this weekend sees a slight lull, with the top-class domestic football replaced by a menu of international friendlies and the racing failing to live up to the Prestbury Park prestige.

Nevertheless, the show must go on, and Saturday sees the ITV Racing crew split their resources between Kelso, Newbury, and Bangor-On-Dee to provide a packed afternoon of action. Here, using data presented by NewBettingSites.uk, we pick out our four best bets from the nine races on offer as we aim to hit a post-Cheltenham Festival Lucky 15.

Horse Racing Betting Sites 2025

1:15 Kelso – Ladbrokes ‘Best Odds Guaranteed On Racing’ Handicap Chase, 3m2f, Class 2

We kick things off in the opening event from Kelso, as the Scottish Borders venue plays its part in the popular Ladbrokes Go North Festival. The Ann Hamilton-trained Dare To Shout heads the market in this stamina-sapping affair. The eight-year-old scores highly for consistency, having finished in the first two in five of six outings over fences. However, he has found one too good in five of those efforts and has risen 5lbs in the handicap for winning once. 7lbs higher than when second on his only previous course and distance outing, he may be worth taking on.

The one we like here is the Lucinda Russell representative Cadell. With form figures of 12P at Kelso, this seven-year-old generally performs well here, with his second-placed effort to the talented Kerryhill reading particularly well Nothing went right last time out at Musselburgh but he has had plenty of time to get over that and has gone well on the back of a break in the past. Deemed worth a shot at Grade 2 company in December, when rated 135, he looks potentially well in off 128 here.

  • Recommended Bet - Cadell to win @ 7/2 with LiveScoreBet

2:05 Newbury – Get Best Odds Guaranteed At BetVictor Novices’ Handicap Hurdle, 2m3f, Class 3

We move down to Newbury for our second selection in a typically competitive Novice Handicap affair. Falling into the popular handicap debutante category, it’s no surprise to see the Joe Tizzard runner Alexei sitting atop the market at a general 9/2. A decent flat performer during his time in Germany, he rattled off a quick-fire double at Taunton at the back end of 2024 on his switch to the hurdling game. Having found Listed company too hot last time out at Exeter, he drops down in class here and looks feasibly treated off 130. That said, top weight of 12st doesn’t make life easy, and we prefer to look elsewhere.

Norn Iron and the hattrick-seeking Glynn Brae make the shortlist, whilst Oh My Johnny will surely go close if his jumping holds up (which it often doesn’t). However, at around twice the price of that trio, the one to be on each way is Old Cowboy from the Gary & Josh Moore operation. Having shown bags of promise on hurdling debut at Newbury in January, this one appeared to lose the plot at Sandown and Ascot. However, he showed he may yet deliver on that earlier potential when hacking up by 20l at Plimpton earlier in the month. He’s up 6lb for that to a mark of 121 but is out of a dam who earned a rating of 132 and, to our eyes, has the ability to go close to matching that rating in time. He will do for us at a double-figure price.

  • Recommended Bet - Old Cowboy each way @ 11/1 with LiveScoreBet

3:15 Newbury – BetVictor British EBF “National Hunt” Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle, 2m4½f, Grade 2

This excellent event from Newbury tops the TV menu from a class perspective and has attracted a hugely promising field in 2025. Fergal O’Brien’s Siog Geal is the choice of the market at present, having hit the frame in four of her five outings in 2024/25. Her 2¾l fourth to Jubilee Alpha is amongst the best pieces of form on offer, whilst her verdict over Surrey Belle also reads well. She’s a likeable sort but looks short enough on what will be her first outing over this distance and at this track.

Having landed a Bumper contest here in March 2024 and scored twice at 2m4½f+, the Harry Derham-trained Jasmine Bliss has no such questions to answer. Having broken her hurdles duck at Ludlow in February, she posted a devastating 11l verdict over the reopposing La Pinsonniere in March. On the back of that effort, Derham initially stated she would head off for her summer break. It, therefore, looks interesting that connections have instead opted to take a shot at this valuable prize. That suggests she continues to thrive at home, and we like her chances of landing the hattrick.

  • Recommended Bet - Jasmine Bliss to win @ 9/2 with LiveScoreBet

3:35 Kelso – Ladbrokes ‘Boost Your Bet Builder’ Handicap Chase, 2m1f, Class 4

Our fourth and final selection comes in the lucky last on the TV card. Lucinda Russell has claimed two of the past six editions of this and boasts solid claims with Bollingerandkrug, who is now fully 12lb lower than for his most recent course and distance success. However, there is a reason for that plummeting rating, and we would like to have seen just a little more in recent outings.

Last time out winner Flash Du Pistolet should go well, but, in a tricky heat, the one to take a chance on is the horse who mastered Bollingerandkrug two starts ago over this course and distance - Gold Des Bois. Having been rated as high as 134 in his pomp, that win over track and trip was a welcome tonic for a horse who had slipped to 112. Perhaps the switch to the Sandy Thompson yard, which he joined in September, has sparked him back to life. He couldn’t back that up at Musselburgh but ruined his chance when clattering the 11th fence that day. Given a couple of months off to recover from that mishap, he looks very fairly treated on his old form.

  • Recommended Bet - Gold Des Bois @ 7/2 with LiveScoreBet

A 50p each way Lucky 15 at the recommended prices returns £1,327.40 with LiveScoreBet if all four horses win, and £49.84 if all four finish only in the placed positions.
