Premier League: Saturday Best Bets
Push is now really coming to shove in the latest Premier League season, with matters still to be decided at both ends of the table. Here we pick out our best bets from this Saturday’s afternoon games, beginning with what promises to be a sizzler on Tyneside.
Newcastle United vs Liverpool – 12:30
No question which of these sides has the greater incentive. For whilst Newcastle are now all but mathematically safe, Liverpool simply must keep on winning in their bid to stick with Manchester City.
Whilst incentive may favour the Reds, the scheduling doesn’t, with this game being sandwiched between two clashes with Villarreal in the Champion’s League. That said, with 12 wins in their last 13 league fixtures, fatigue does not yet appear to be setting in for Jurgen Klopp’s troops.
However, if there is a side to test Liverpool at present, it may just be the revitalised Magpies, with Eddie Howe’s men heading into this seeking a fifth win on the spin, and seventh successive victory at St. James’ Park.
All told Liverpool do remain a class above Newcastle, and with the carrot of at least temporarily moving to the top of the table, we expect them to get the job done. They may however be made to work pretty hard for it, with Newcastle having scored at least once in ten of their last eleven here at home.
- Tip - Liverpool to win and both teams to score @ 21/10 with 32Red
Watford vs Burnley – 15:00
Whilst Watford have lurched from manager to manger and continued to prove a notch below this level, Burnley have responded positively to the controversial sacking of Sean Dyche, with two wins and a draw under interim boss Mike Jackson. They must however keep that points tally ticking over with plummeting Everton still having a game in hand.
The slight trouble with this game is in determining what exactly the Watford approach will be. However, what often occurs with sides almost certainly relegated, is that the shackles come off and they begin to play a little more on the front foot. Should that prove the case, the Hornets possess enough attacking threat, through the likes of Ismaïla Sarr and Emmanuel Dennis, to cause Burnley problems.
We fancy the hosts to get on the scoresheet, but boasting the worst home defensive record in the league, we still see Roy Hodgson’s men coming up short against in form and motivated Burnley.
- Tip - Burnley to win and both teams to score @ 9/2 with 32Red
Southampton vs Crystal Palace – 15:00
A win for the Saints here would see them move into the top half of the table, whilst the Eagles will move above their south coast rivals should they pick up the points. In anticipation that this should provide sufficient motivation to see both sides adopt a forward-thinking approach, we fancy both teams to score may be the way to go in this one.
Southampton were fortunate to keep a clean sheet against Arsenal in their most recent game here – conceding a whopping 23 shots to the Gunners – and have since shipped two on the road to both Burnley and Brighton.
Palace were beaten 1-0 at Newcastle last time out, but did have their chances, and with the hosts being forced into a slight reshuffle due to the absence of the excellent Valentino Livramento, we fancy Patrick Vieira’s men to get on the scoresheet. Southampton meanwhile have scored at least once in 13 of their last 14 Premier League home games.
- Tip - Both teams to score @ 7/10 with 32Red
- A £10 treble on the above selections returns £289.85
