Alan Hutton: Antony, Sancho, Rashford and Casemiro will leave United this summer

Former Premier League defender Alan Hutton has told NewBettingSites.uk that he believes Manchester United will undergo a clear-out this summer, naming Antony, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Casemiro as four players who he believes will leave the club.

Hutton suggested that United need to get rid of some of their biggest earners in Antony, Sancho, Rashford and Casemiro in order to free up space on the wage bill for potential new targets, which could include a number nine to replace Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Speaking to NewBettingSites.uk, Hutton said: “Antony, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford are three names that I think could leave this summer. They are all on big wages and would free up some funds for the club and make space to bring in other targets. I think they’ll probably all leave.

“Casemiro is another on a high wage and getting rid of him could free up some space. They need legs in midfield and I don’t think he offers that anymore.

“I also think they need to bring in a proper number nine who can really help them at the top end of the pitch and contribute more consistently.

Bruno, Diallo and Garnacho can drive United forward

Hutton also highlighted three players who he thinks will survive United’s clear-out and could play a leading role under Ruben Amorim in the future. Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho are three names who he felt could be a big part of the club’s future.

“Bruno Fernandes is the player I look at and think he’s going to drive the club forward,” he said. “They need to build around him. They’ve got some young talent in the squad as well with the likes of Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho. They will play a big part in Amorim’s system going forward.

“If they can keep those key players and then add some quality in and around them, I think we’ll begin to see them improving.”

Not certain Amorim is the man to take United forward

Speaking on Amorim’s time at United so far and his potential future, Hutton wasn’t fully confident that the Portuguese manager is the man to lead the club forward due his unwillingness to change from his favoured three-at-the-back formation. The former Premier League defender did suggest, however, that Amorim must be given time to show improvement once he has brought in players to fit his system.

“I’m not one hundred percent sure I’ve seen enough from Ruben Amorim to say he’s definitely the man to lead Manchester United forward. I understand he likes to play his formation, but when you go into a squad you have to actually recognise whether you’ve got the players to suit your system.

“I think they’ve struggled at times and it might just be down to trying to transition from one manager to the next, so I think Amorim needs more time. He needs the opportunity to bring in players that he feels will suit his system and take the team to the next level.

“Yes, it has been a poor season, but I think they will give him time. There are a few areas that need sorting out. They need a striker and they need legs in midfield. He’ll know what areas he needs to fix and he’ll be given time to do so, which isn’t something you always get at a big club.”

United showed great character against Lyon

Looking back on their last-gasp victory over Lyon in the Europa league quarter-finals, Hutton suggested that although he feels they should’ve been able to see out the game before extra-time, United showed great character to come back and win the tie.

“What a crazy game United had against Lyon!” said Hutton. “They’ll be thinking they can win the Europa League after that. That said, I felt they should’ve been able to see out the game given they were two-nil up at home. I know Lyon are a good team, but they should’ve had enough to see it out fairly comfortably.

“Then they concede four unanswered goals and you begin to think that’s it, the wheels have come off. However, they showed great character to come back. That’s the thing, they’ve shown they can play to a high level to beat teams like Lyon, but they’re just so inconsistent. That has to change.”
